Approximately 98 percent of the natural gas we use in this country comes from right here in North America. Greater use of this clean, abundant, made-in-America energy source will create U.S. jobs and boost local economies, while advancing our national security. How many jobs?
- According to an in-depth economic analysis completed by IHS Global Insight, shale gas development alone supported more than 600,000 American jobs in 2010, a figure that IHS estimates will top 1.6 million by 2035.
- A recent study by PriceWaterhouseCoopers and the National Association of Manufacturers found that U.S. manufacturing companies could employ one million more workers by 2025 thanks to abundant American shale gas.
- Consumers benefit, too. According to IHS, the average U.S. household will save $926 in disposable income annually from 2012 to 2015 thanks to shale gas - a saving that grows to nearly $2,000 by 2035.
Our nation is the envy of the world for our vast domestic abundance of natural gas. In fact, we are the world's leading producer of this clean energy source. It's time we put it to greater use for our economy and energy security.
