Background: Following is a statement by Frank Macchiarola, executive vice president for government affairs for America’s Natural Gas Alliance on congressional approval today of the National Defense Authorizations Act. The measure includes provisions that streamline Bureau of Land Management permitting and level the playing field for natural gas vehicles.

“This bipartisan legislation makes progress on ANGA’s priorities. It strengthens the successful BLM pilot project program and creates a more efficient and effective permitting system that distributes resources to the offices with the biggest workloads. By moving forward with this legislation, Congress takes an important step to achieve reasonable time frames for processing drilling permit applications on public lands and to reduce undue permitting backlogs.”

“This bill also promotes the tangible benefits that natural gas vehicles offer in increasing the use of an abundant and affordable American resource. This provision helps pave the way for the deployment of cleaner, more efficient vehicles on our highways and allows our nation to enjoy the environmental and economic advantages natural gas offers.”
